Group Blog
Hello everyone, welcome to my second blog post, my Group Blog! For my upcoming project, I am choosing to take the route of working alone. Working in groups is not something that I am opposed to, however I want to take the time to evaluate myself and interpret the material before I branch out into collaborating with others. Through the process of curating my first Media Studies project, I want to take the solitude to truly take in the process of going from and creating my idea, to giving a treatment, to writing up my script and storyboard, to then making said film. I will say I do enjoy having creative freedom in the things I create which drives me to want to work solo. having the ability to use whatever idea that comes to my mind as well as having total control, within project guidelines of course, of what I create and how I go about editing, acting, or producing upon sound enticing to me. I will say that working alone does have its' downsides. When working alone you don't get to have the interaction with others to share ideas and collaborate. When you have others in your group you have the ability to create a mixture of ideas and visions to form one final product creating fragments of ideas from multiple outlets. Once again I am not opposed to group work but working alone is a temporary arrangement I plan to change in the future. Another benefit is also having the ability to lean on group members when certain areas of my ideas or work are falling short individually. Going back to the benefits of working alone, I will say I am in the process of learning my student body and classmates for future collaboration but I wanted to avoid the issues that comes with working with friends. Oftentimes when collaborating with friends, biased is used where friends are being collaborated with and sometimes working with friends isn't the best idea and may decrease productivity. I want to be able to meet people who I don't have preconceived biases towards. Another upside towards working alone would be a convenience in filming. When filming in a group for off campus projects, you would have the issue of team coordinating a time and place for filming times and location. Certain people have certain day to day schedules to follow and finding a common accommodation for each and every group member can be difficult. By working alone, I have the freedom to follow my own schedule and choose filming time based on my personal schedule. As well as filming location, working solo gives the freedom to choose filming location based on my personal proximity from where I live to where I would like to film. I am someone who enjoys taking on the role of a leader in the projects I do which further drives me to want to work alone. Overall, in the future I plan to branch out and explore more group work activity but for now I enjoy the decision to work alone on this project. Thank you for reading my Group Blog blog post!
P.S I am now partaking in a group for my project! I am partnering with David Brown (classmate)!
