Intro Blog
My name is Aljeanae Pierre, I am a junior at Fort Lauderdale High School, and I am taking my second year AICE Media Studies A Level class. Welcome to my Intro Blog! To begin, I am taking this class as it peaks my interest of film making and production. I have some decent prior experience in media studies as I took a TV Production class in middle school where we participated in filming film segments and commercials and even a music video! I find it interesting how society has become so reliant on technology to the point where it has practically become embedded in our everyday routines. Everyday we consume media through the film industry and never truly think about or understand the process behind how this media is created. Advertisements (TV commercials), movies, and television shows are all forms of media we consume, and learning to make them is fascinating to me. In this course I plan to learn all of the detailed and technical aspects of film making as well as experiencing the bigger, more hands on aspects of film making. Learning to go from an idea, to a storyboard, to finished product is the major portion of what I am excited to learn in AICE Media Studies. I also plan on learning and grasping the film making process. I feel as getting into a director state of mind all while simultaneously taking on the more behind the scenes positions of film making will be an essential learning objective in the course. Gaining insight on the roles of the editors and actors as well is important to understanding the film making process. On a more personal perspective, I feel as though taking this class can lead to personal benefits such as expanding my creativity. Through the various projects such as creating a commercial, a full film, and a postcard for example, I will be challenged to use my creativity to persuade the audience and convey certain messages broadcasted in my medias. The important life skill of team work and cooperation will be picked up as well. In the film making process and projects done, group work will be done. By learning to collaborate with others and share a vision with equal team work and effort, media is born. As I am not completely set on pursuing a career in the film and media industry, having the knowledge and ability to create films is a wondrous skill to have. AICE Media Studies also makes for a perfect elective. Selecting a class where you are able to have fun and learn to make films, while still undergoing a detailed process where students gain knowledge on mastering an amazing skill brings a perfect balance of fun and academics! AS Level was an amazing course, I am excited for what A Level has in store.
