Filming/Production Blog Re-film at the Track
Hello everyone! Welcome to my second filming blog where I will be discussing my second day of filming with David at the track.
First off, backtracking on our first day of filming David and I looked back at our shots and we were not very pleased so we got together, reviewed previous scenes in accordance with our storyboard and decided to do a re film of the entire commercial. I will say with these new scenes we shot there was drastic improvement. Improvement was shown not just in our resulting shots of the re film but in our communication, cooperation, and the overall production quality. This new style of smoother communication with David and I certainly reflected on our commercial, in comparison to our shots from Day 1 on the track, they were cleaner, and definitely more professional than before.
Another thing important to note to this day's filming process is that David and I were able to actually plan our shots together instead of having that director and actor dynamic that was placed upon our commercial at first. We were definitely more in sync this time. I feel like on day 1 David and I were very impromptu with our filming. We went according to our story board but we didn't consider the factors such as working alongside others on the track and how that would affect our shots so certain shots were compromised. This time David and I did everything together and we were able to critique each other on what could be done better to complete our commercial.
For certain shots I would propose the idea to shoot from a certain angle, however when the idea was actually done and put onto camera it wouldn't necessarily be the best, so David would work with me to create a better, cleaner shot. I will say when David and I made the decision to begin re filming our commercial on day 2 I was heavily skeptical and thought it would be so tedious but I was proven wrong. On day 2 of filming we managed to complete all of our scenes which is something we couldn't do on Day 1, due to missing our product but also having a lack thereof effective communication. David and I have been a good team from the beginning, however our ability to collaborate definitely improved.
Another important filming aspect I would like to talk about is how in Day 2 I truly realized how important it is to allow other group members to give their input to produce a better product. As stated previously, David and I had the specific roles of actor and director. With these roles being assigned onto us, that meant many of the filming decisions I took upon myself to make and this played a big part in the quality of our Day 1 shots. On Day 2, David would take turns dabbling at being actor and director and at times I would even be the actor-like test subject to test how a particular scene would look. By being able to give feedback and provide versatility to our roles, our filming production quality certainly improved.
