Second Production Blog - Music Blog!
Hello everyone! Welcome to my second production blog! In this blog, I'll be discussing how I am handling the music for my film.
Since my film is independent, I am finding that I have a lot of productive freedom. I have almost complete autonomy over the schedule followed for production. For example, I've found that I have made my filming days very specific to my needs so I have enough free time to clear other production aspects. I decided that I was going to focus on music since the other actress involved, Samantha Fernandez wasn't available to film our scene do to work duties. I will say the accommodation needed was a breeze since we needed to solely accommodate one person due to personal scheduling vs an entire group.
Anyways, today was spent getting my film's music in order. The initial plan was to use two songs to cover the film, Breathe Me by Sia and the instrumental to C U Girl by Steve Lacy. Although I still plan to use these songs, I have added more music I want to use. I really wanted to use the song, Perfect Day by Hoku which is commonly known from the Legally Blonde soundtrack. I initially set out to email and contact the correct authorities to avoid copyright disputes, however I am now seeing that a backup plan is needed in the event I don't hear back in time. Of course it isn't ideal to have to use an alternative to the original music you had in mind. I feel like music can do so much for a film. If the direct script dialogue can't fully convey the story you need, then the tone, instruments, and lyrics of the song combines can make so much difference. So far I have set out doing very deep research across Safari, as well as looking over various YouTube compilations for the perfect royalty free music. I have not been perfectly successful at finding the perfect royalty free song but I am optimistic on my search. I also am very optimistic I will hear back from the music owners of the original songs I intend to use. Although the film is short and music might be used as just an audible prop, I am still counting on good song choice paired with other production qualities to help me produce and deliver a wonderful film production!
